Friesen Waterway Fencing

Northeast of Piney, along West Pine Creek, a tributary to the Roseau River

Benefits

  • Livestock have no access to riparian area allowing for natural revegetation and bank stabilization
  • Habitat will be naturally reestablished for wildlife
  • Restored riparian area will act as a buffer, filtering nutrients that may runoff from the surrounding pasture

Characteristics

  • ~2 dozen cattle
  • 4 strand barbed wire fence along entire length of creek
  • Cattle will be allowed to flash graze along creek during dry season to prevent overgrowth

Project Overview

West Pine Creek runs straight through John Friesen’s cattle pasture. He’s fenced off over a mile of riparian area leaving a large setback to allow natural revegetation and bank stabilization.
