This shelterbelt was planted in anticipation of a developing farmyard. The shelterbelt area was prepared by tilling, then the trees were planted and a plastic mulch applied. The mulch is used to reduce the weed pressure on the young trees and helps maintain soil moisture, giving the trees a better chance at survival.
